The goal of this work was to investigate facilitators and barriers for the participation of children and adolescents in the project Esporte em Ação - Núcleo Vila Torres. The research was qualitative and the data was collected through observations and interviews with professionals, participants and parents/guardians of children and adolescents. The main facilitators are: access to sports, to educational opportunities and to a place safer than the streets. The main barriers are: lack of security in the way to the project, lack of incentives by parents/guardians; climate, domestic obligations. The research offers subsidies for the development of new and similar projects.
