Soil chemical attributes of a red latosol under different systems of preparation, management, and covering plants

Soil management systems and fertilization types make differentiated amounts of mineral elements in the soil profile available. The objective of this study was to verify alterations in chemical attributes of a Red Latosol (Typic Haplustox) of Brazilian Savannah under organic and mineral fertilization, vegetation cover in no tillage and conventional tillage systems, and with bean and cotton crops. The experiment had a randomized complete block design with split-plots. Two treatments of soil preparation (no tillage and conventional tillage) were installed in the plots. Six treatments of fertilization were installed in the subplots: chicken manure fertilizer, chicken manure fertilizer + half of the recommended mineral fertilization, mineral fertilizations, Crotalaria juncea, Pennisetum americanum and control. Soil samples were collected at depths of 0.00-0.10 m and 0.10-0.20 m for the evaluation of P, M.O., pH, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, H + Al, Al3+ SB, CTCe and V. The organic fertilizer only or associated with mineral fertilizer were the best treatments. The cover plants performed similarly regarding the recovery of chemical attributes. The distribution of mineral nutrients in the surface layer (0.00-0.20 m) was similar for no tillage and conventional tillage.
