ABSTRACT
Sesame is commercially cultivated in the northeast region of Brazil since 1986 following the reduction of cotton production in the region. There is scarcity of information about the conservation of the CNPA Gseed strain commercialized in the State of Paraíba. The physiological quality of the seeds of this strain was studied, with storage being in paper bags, cloth sacks and metallic container, under the ambient conditions of two micro-regions of Paraíba (Patos and Campina Grande) and in an environment with controlled conditions during 13 months. Germination and vigor tests as well as the determination of dry matter moisture content were performed. A completely randomized design in a 3 x 3 x 8 factorial scheme with four repetitions was adopted. Based upon the results, it is concluded that the differential viability response for all the analyzed factors used is associated with the type of packaging, which determined the longevity of the seed during the storage period.
