Study and application of computational simulation in simple problems of fluid mechanics and heat transfer

This paper has the purpose to present the computational simulation performance in some cases that may be considered classical in the study of fluid mechanics and heat transfer. To do so, the commercial software Ansys-CFX 12.1, which is based on the finite volume method, was used. The performance of the computational tool was evaluated through the comparison with experimental results and literature data. With the knowledge of the increasing computers development and the easier access to them and to sophisticated tools at class, it is important to know their limitations. Four cases that address different physics situations are presented: the study of the airflow over an aerodynamic profile, the simulation of a static mixer, the functioning of a rotational viscometer and the flow over a flat plate normal to the air flux.
