Abstract
We discuss in this article Richard Feynman's role in nanotechnology from the point of view of one of his most cited texts, namely the speech There is plenty of room at the bottom – an invitation for a new Field of Physics. We discuss the historical context of the time it was conceived, possible inspirations for the author and the influence decades later, when the speech was rediscovered and necessary in establishing nanotechnology as a new field of knowledge.
