Collision with the 'slingshot effect'

Collision with the 'slingshot effect'. We discuss theoretically the collision with the 'slingshot effect' where a body transfers linear momentum and kinetic energy to a second smaller body mass, causing the mechanical energy of this second body to grow dramatically. We show that even as the collisions are inelastic, the gain of mechanical energy can be large. We present an interesting experimental study of the effect achieved from a video. Finally we discuss the 'gravitational slingshot effect' used to increase the mechanical energy of the spacecraft passed nearby planets
