Joint Consultation: a Training Strategy for Comprehensi ve Health Care

Abstract:

This article discusses the health practice known as Joint Consultation, wich combines a health care and teaching approach and aims to improve both the quality the care provided and the training process.This in-service training techniques emerges from the need to provide case-resolving responses during the agile dynamics of health care, within a scenario that involves various categories of health professionals, the patient and the patient’s Family whenever necessary. The action takes place at the request of one of the heakth professionals in order to complemente and/or elucidate one or more aspects in the patient’s evolution wich are beyond that professinal’s scope, in order to define subsequente treatment options. The article focuses on the partnership between the requesting clinician and the mental heakth professional (psychologist or psychiatrist called in for the consultation) with the patient.
