APLICAÇÃO DO MÉTODO "CAGE" PARA ESTUDO DA PREVALÊNCIA E DETECÇÃO PRECOCE DO ALCOOLISMO EM ENFERMARIASGERAIS E ESPECIALIZADAS DE UM HOSPITAL UNIVERSITÁRIO

Summary:

Many studies have demonstrated the high prevalence of alcoholism in Brazil.

At the present research, it was evaluated the prevalence of alcoholism at the Hospital de Clinicas of the Universidade Federal do Paraná.

The patients (n=211) from the Internal Medicine, Surgery and Gynecology nurseries were interviewed.

The patients answered a questionnaire which was composed by the CAGE and SADD testes (specifics to determine the possibility of alcoholism). The researchers compared the data collected with the records of the patients physicians.

It was demonstrated 10,9% of alcoholism, mainly among men.

About 60,86% of the positive ressults demonstrated by the CAGE test weren´t identified by the physicians evaluations, even on some cases(2,85) which showed 3 or more symptoms or signals of alcoholism.
