Evaluation of the cognitive progress during medical internship

This article investigates the cognitive progress of medical students of the Centro Universitário Serra dos Órgãos (FESO) during internship, covering the period 1999 to 2004. Six hundred and six students in the 11th and 12th semester were submitted to two tests, one at the beginning and the other at the end of the internship. The mean found in the first test was 4.1 compared to a mean of 6.7 found in the second test, which was indicative of cognitive progress during the three months of internship. Finally, the authors discuss if these results are comparable with other results published in the Brazilian literature about cognitive progress during graduation, chiefly during medical internship.
