Awareness through Movement: Feldenkrais method as a way of thinking awareness

Abstract:

Our proposal in this paper aims at clarifying some of the theoretical and practical assumptions of the Feldenkrais method, considering the change implied by his project of a somatic method that does not want to exercise a body-object, but much more to teach what he named awareness through movements. A philosophical study of such a change allows us to discuss its concrete and conceptual effects, from a triple characterization of this awareness: dynamic, differential, and made of tendencies. Each one of those three aspects is successively considered studying some examples of the lessons, some Moshe Feldenkrais writings and a historical reference: the Weber-Fechner law.
