"I want to be a teacher": the construction of meanings of teaching through Pibid

Abstract:

This paper presents the result of a research that analyzed the meanings of teaching rebuilt by undergraduates of Pedagogy during their stint as interns of the Institutional Scholarship for Teaching Initiation Program (Programa Institucional de Bolsa de Iniciação à Docência - Pibid). The research evaluates the impact of the program in the professional formation, verifying if the methodology adopted by the subproject of Pedagogy at the Universidade Estadual do Mato Grosso do Sul has brought the students closer to the teaching career, meeting the objectives of the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior. The data collected result from logbooks, evaluation sheets and reports filled in by the interns between 2010 and 2013. They were analyzed from the concepts of senses and meanings of the word "teaching". As a result, it is observed that the activities of Pibid have been essential to help students overcome daily difficulties, understand the meaning of the teaching profession and seek mechanisms to implement a more efficient pedagogical practice, coherent with the guidelines of the Pedagogy major.
