AGRONOMIC AND GENETIC DIVERGENCE AMONG ACCESSIONS OF PINEAPPLE UNDER THE CONDITIONS OF THE STATE OF MATO GROSSO

ABSTRACT

The existence of genetic variability is essential to start a breeding program. Therefore, genotypes characterization is the first step towards the definition of breeding strategy to be adopted. So that, this research aimed to study the genetic divergence based on morphological and agronomic characteristics among 19 accessions of pineapple (Ananas comosus var. comosus) belonging to the active work collection of the UNEMAT Tangara da Serra. 52 descriptors were used, 31 quantitative and 21 qualitative and for data analysis the coefficient of coincidence, the mean standardized Euclidean distance and the joint analysis by Gower distance. Through the evaluated descriptors it was found a wide variation among the accessions ofA. comosus var. comosus. The joint analysis was more efficient in the representation of genetic variability among accessions. It is suggested the crossings of the accessions 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 13 and 19 with the accessions 3, 9, 10 and 11.
