Fruit production and carbohydrate contents in the leaves of the acid lime tree 'tahiti' girdled and treated with gibberellic acid

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the gibberellic acid (GA3) and of the girdling of branches on the carbohydrate contents in the leaves, on the production and weight of fruits of the acid lime tree 'Tahiti'. The experimental design was in casualized plots, with five repetititons, and the design was the factorial 4 x 3. The first factor was the application of GA3 in four concentrations (0, 7, 14 and 21 mg/L-1), and the second one was the two periods of girdling: one at the beginning of flowering and the other one a month later, plus the control without the girdling. It was observed that the GA3 did not have an affect on production. The girdling of the branches, independently of the periods, increased the production of the plants and the carbohydrate contents in the leaves. The greatest production and the greatest consequent relation fruits/m-3 of crown caused a reduction in the average weight of the fruits of the acid lime tree 'Tahiti'.
