Abstract
The mental retarding provokes dependence and suffering for the elderlies, carers and family. Thinking of the carers needs it was developed at “EPIGG/UFF” a group for supporting and guidance for the carers of the retarded elderlies that, through the workshops, tries to get the doubts out and give information about the care. Then, the aim is to describe some workshops evolved with the carers. It is a descriptive study of 07 therapeutics workshops, and for the study and search, the geriatry and gerontology campus of UFF, in Niterói, RJ were used. Among the workshops developed, the folowing will be described: body hygiene; skin care; medication; dependence; environment safety; wake up for leisure and self – sticked out pictures. During the meetings, topics and livings had been dealt, and it could be checked that the higher the time of gethering among the carers themselves and with the professionals, the higher the knowledgement, the interest by the subject and the group stability got.There are reports like “here I feel good” or “this group helps me a lot”. It can be concluded that the carers need to diminish their doubts and have time for their own, so, the therapeutic workshops appeared as a help, guidance and information mechanism, besides providing life quality and exchanges of experience among the engaged and the group.
