História e música: canção popular e conhecimento histórico

This article raises some questions and discusses some theoretical and methodological issues in the relationship between history, music, and popular songs. Theoretical transformations and new concepts of documental material, and the renewed practice of historians, defined the incorporation of new language through history. Following this direction, the article intends to show, from an interdisciplinary perspective, how a relationship between history, culture, and popular music may reveal unknown processes, little known and rarely raised by historiography. To achieve this objective, it is necessary to overcome a traditional concept of musical history, and organize some elements to better understand multiple relationships between songs and historical knowledge. This discussion leads to the possibility, and mainly viability, of historians to deal with music and popular songs as important documental research to map out, and explore obscure zones of history, above all, those related to the subaltern and popular sectors.
