“More than a magazine, a dictionary for parents”: the Pais & Filhos magazine and the transnational press for the family

Abstract:

This article aimed to discuss how the analysis of thePais&Filhos magazine contributed to a history of the educational press directed at families, considering its role in the Brazilian publishing market in the 1960s to 1980sand its relation with the transnational press focused on this theme. Pais&Filhos dealt with issues related to the health, education and behavior of children and their families. Nonetheless, the Brazilian magazine approached international publications such as Eltern (Germany), Parents (USA), Enfant Magazine and Parents (France). These journals shared with Pais&Filhos the commitment to educate the reading families, in scientific terms, about aspects related to gestation, care, health and the education of their children.
