Prediction equation of bone age in sports initiation through anthropometric variables

INTRODUCTION: Currently sports performance has developed rapidly and concrete, thus requiring an efficient evolution of different areas of sport sciences offering scientific support necessary continuity of this phenomenon. OBJETIVE: The present study aimed to develop a predictive mathematical equation bone age of young athletes, based on anthropometric variables. METHODS: To achieve the final result were measured skinfolds, body circumferences and bone diameters, chronological age and bone age. The statistician treatment used the correlation between variables, multiple linear regression model with backward. RESULTS: the study had the end result of a model equation that explaining 75.4% (r = 0,868; R² = 0,754) of the variation of bone age using the chronological age, height, triceps skinfolds, perimeter corrected arm and diameters of femur and humerus. CONCLUSION: It was concluded from the results that this type of model shows approximate values to those observed by the hand and wrist radiography, becomes important in the observation of maturational stage through testing is easily performed by professionals in the sports area.
