Medical complications of anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa

Eating disorders are associated with potentially serious medical complications. Metabolic and electrolyte abnormalities and endocrine alterations can be present and many of them result from the weight loss and the purging behaviors seen in these patients. Early diagnosis and an adequate management of these complications are important to reduce the risks associated. The aim of this article is to discuss the medical complications of anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.
