Relationship of cucumber primed seeds and plant field performance

The objective of this research was to define a reliable procedure for seed priming and to verify the relationship between seed priming and plant field performance. Three cucumber seed lots of different physiological quality, cultivars Safira and Joia, were used. Seeds were submitted to hydropriming, osmopriming (-0.1, -0.2 and -0.5 MPa) and matriconditioning and evaluated for speed and percentage of seedling emergence, plant development and fruit yield. Results showed that seed osmoconditioning in a -0.2 MPa PEG solution promoted a less significant effect on percentage than in speed of seedling emergence, but this effect promoted primarily a vigorous initial seedling growth and did not affect fruit yield.
