Surgical treatment of recurrent groin hérnias: modification of mc vay's tecnique utilizing polypropylene: monofilament mesh

Groin hemias are very common to mankind and despite the fact that its knowledge has been originated in the remote past, many issues related to this subject are not fully defined as yet. Many studies proposing differents approaches to the management of the inguinal hernias have been published over the years, leading to a better comprehension of the sugical techniques involved in the repair abdominal wall defects. However; as the recurrence rate was significantly high in a large number of cases, the surgical repair of recurrent hemias demanded additional skills for a satisfactory outcome. Late 1913 an idea began to grow up - the weakened transversalis fascia could be replaced with aforeign material. Over the following years many different materials were utilized and lately the use of the marlex mesh prosthesis became popular among surgeons worldwide. A study involving 92 patients with recurrent inguinal hernias, operated upon by the same surgeon, utilizing the same technique (marlex mesh prosthesis interposition) in a 20 year period was carried out to stablish the efficacy of this method. The follow-up period ranged from 4 to 23 years and the results were considered to be excellent following a careful analysis of all patients records.
