Postural habits and vocal behavior of physical education professionals in the hydro-gymnastics modality

PURPOSE: to check the posture habits and vocal behavior of physical education professionals in the hydro-gymnastics modality, and describe the work environment and its impact on posture and the voice of professionals in the city of Santa Maria / RS. As well as relating to posture and the voice of these professionals. METHODS: this research is characterized as a qualitative-quantitative and descriptive research. The sample was made up by 17 Physical Education professionals, who acted in academies or clubs, in the hydro-gymnastics modality. It consisted of three stages: the first one, an interview with the responsible ones, the second stage, some hydro-gymnastics lessons had been observed. The third stage consisted of data collection, where a questionnaire related to quality of life and occupation was applied, a test was carried through to evaluate vocal behavior and, finally, a postural evaluation. RESULTS: 14 (82.35%) women and three (17.65%) men took part in the research, with performance time varying form 1 to 10 years and the working hours from 10 the 40 weekly hours. Men and women did not show significant difference as for the postural alterations in all evaluated parameters. The men drunk little water in relation to the women (p= 0,0417). The environment of noisy work and need to speak in strong intensity (strong voice) were significant aspects. CONCLUSION: the studied group, showed postural alterations that compromise breathing and, consequently vocal production, working in an environment where the proper conditions and the lack of available resources are the main factors to have been classified as" Champions of vocal abuse".
