The deficit in phonological awareness and its relation with dyslexia: diagnosis and intervention

BACKGROUND: the relationships between phonological awareness and dyslexia, as well as diagnosis and treatment. PURPOSE: review the specific literature in search of information that relate phonological awareness and dyslexia and as a way to deepen academic and professional knowledge on the subject. CONCLUSION: there is no consensus in the literature about the definition of dyslexia, and whether or not there are factors associated with it. Moreover, the deficit in phonological awareness seems to be a main indicator in the diagnosis of dyslexia, requiring specific interventions for developing skills in phonological awareness.
