Open-access The Public Defender’s Office of Rio Grande do Sul and the disasters of 2024: what the climate crisis demands of the institution

The year 2024 was marked in Rio Grande do Sul by extreme weather events, particularly in the Taquari Valley and Metropolitan regions. Intense rainfall highlighted environmental degradation, the insufficiency of public policies, and climate interdependence on a global scale. In this scenario, new challenges were imposed on institutions and society. This article analyzes the role of the Public Defender's Office of the State of Rio Grande do Sul in the face of the climate crisis.
