Human rights, reproductive justice and maternal mortality in brazil 20 years after the death of Alyne Pimentel

The article analyzes the legal complex and the public policies to combat maternal mortality put into practice in Brazil in the last 20 years, questioning: to what extent the Brazilian condemnation in the “Caso Alyne”vs Brazil have repercussions when it came to the incorporation and implementation of the reproductive justice paradigm? It uses a qualitative approach and deductive methodology based on document analysis, structured in three parts: case analysis and decision on the merits; approach to the theoretical contours of the reproductive justice paradigm and; analysis about the incorporation and effectiveness of the paradigm of reproductive justice and reduction of maternal lives lost in Brazil. It concludes that, although the decision is relevant and innovative, the public policies put into practice in Brazil in the last 20 years have not taken into account the principles of reproductive justice.
