O EFEITO PAÍS DE ORIGEM E SUA INFLUÊNCIA NA PERCEPÇÃO DOS CONSUMIDORES DE WHEY PROTEIN: UM ESTUDO EXPERIMENTAL

ABSTRACT

The country of origin effect is characterized by being an extrinsic attribute, in which it can act positively or negatively regarding attitudes or consumer reviews towards a product or service. The present study evaluates whether it is possible to identify the effect of country of origin regarding perceived quality, purchase intention and willingness to pay for whey protein of two countries, the United States and Brazil. In order to conduct this study, an experimental study was made, which consisted of two studies with factorial design 3x1 and 3x2. The results evidences that the group of Brazil bring forward lower means for perceived quality and purchase intention, while the United States obtained higher values for willingness to pay construct. Furthermore, the situation of high price could not mitigate the negative effect achieved by Brazil regarding perceived quality and purchase intention of whey protein. Furthermore, the low price was able to highlight the positive side of the American product. The low price was also able to suppress the country of origin effect for willingness to pay.
