The present article consists of a reflection on competencies and their application at the Nursing. It is part of a doctoral thesis. It was observed that health organizations have not been adopting the Competency Management either because it is a tool that requires specific knowledge or a fairly unexplored tool. We present some considerations on the understanding of Competency Management and its applicability and main questioning for the nurse professional at the relation with people. We emphasized the registration of its evolution, analyzing different phases, determinant changes that were capable of allying its organizational strategies to the Human Resources politics on professional development.
