ABEn's contribution for professional visibility and recognition

EDITORIAL

National President of ABEn (2007-2010)

The Brazilian Nursing Association for the 2007-2010 period, in the development of its plan of activities, prioritized the continuity of the CIPESC® project, aiming to build a Brazilian terminology for Nursing practice, based on the understanding that the Nursing Process is a methodological tool that indicates a set of actions enforced against the person's needs, family or community at one point of health and illness process, that requires professional care.

The documentation of nursing process enables the analysis of cost-benefit of actions and interventions and highlights the contribution of Nursing in the health of the population, increasing visibility and professional recognition.

Thus, ABEn began to recommend the operation and registration of Nursing Process, in a deliberate and systematic manner. In 2008, ABEn created the Subcommittee for Nursing Practice Systematization and promoted a workshop "Comprehensive health care and Nursing Practice Systematization in the Single Health System (SHS)", the national health system.

This Subcommittee, composed by competent and committed professional associates places:

1) the reprint of the book "Fundamentals of care";

2) numerous courses and participation in conferences or round tables to discuss the Nursing Care Systematization, the Nursing Process and nursing terminology;

3) the attendance of institutions requesting technical assistance in implementing the Nursing Care Systematization, the example of the Sofia Feldman Hospital, in Belo Horizonte, MG;

4) participation in a meeting involving representatives of ABEn and COFEN (Federal Nursing Council) and the Interest Group in Nursing Informatics, the governing body of the Brazilian Society of Health Informatics, to discuss, among other things, the need for standardization of information in Nursing in Brazil in accordance with the worldwide guidelines;

5) the beginning to articulate technical and scientific cooperation between the ABEn and the Brazilian Society of Health Informatics, with a view to proposing courses, events, standards and other actions that may be of interest to both entities;

6) a review of Resolution about Nursing Care Systematization, culminating with Resolution COFEN-358/2009;

7) the preparation and publishing of the book "Integration of Care in SHS and the Nursing Care Systematization";

8) the process of translation of the book "Notes on nursing: A guide for today's caregiver", an update made by the International Council of Nurses (ICN).

In this edition, REBEn publishes another important achievement of this Subcommittee. It is developing a support system for the Nursing Care Systematization, based on the steps of Nursing Process and Human Needs, using the language diagnoses, interventions and outcomes for nursing documentation of professional practice, which will be available to members and to schools and companies linked to specialists entity.

Crowning the implementation work of Nursing Care Systematization in Brazil, ABEn promoted the 10th National Symposium on Nursing Diagnosis, seeking to update and prepare nursing professionals involved in care practice and nursing education about the tools available for the provision of care.

That's how ABEn defends the attention of Nursing as a right of citizenship by investing in training processes and continuing education that allow the construction of a paradigm-centered in care and quality of life.
