Organização técnica e funcional dos serviços de controle de infecção hospitalar existentes nos hospitais do município de Goiânia-Goiás

A study about hospital infection control process, carried out in 49 hospitals of the private and public network situated in the urban area of Goiânia-Goiás. The aims consist in identifying the hospitals which have Hospital Infection Control Commitees (HICC) examining the functional and strutural conditions of HICC, and analyzing the intervening factors in the process. The data were goten by means of interviews with 7 doctors and 48 nurses who work in HICC or are responsable for the leadership of nursing service. Only 34,7% hospitals said they had HICC. The data revealed administrative and structural frailties. 20,4% hospitals have professionals working full-time; 32,6% do some kind of epidemiologic surveillanc; 10,2% standardize antibiotics; 16,3% know their infection rates; 28,5%) carry out some kind of quality control in the sterilization; 26,5% sais they had principles for risk procedures, among others. The carried out research reveals the need of more engagement and awareness in the professionals, directors and owners of the hospitals in order to criate a hospital infection control system.
