Assuming that one's vision of the world determinates the theoretical, philosophical and ideological bases which produce an specific model in practice, this study analyses the matter of team work in mental health. The authors estabilish a parallel between the hegemonic notion of team work given by positivism and the one given by historical dialectical materialism. The latter intends to transform mental health assistance through the participative action involving the health workers and the population.
