Regional innovation system: a study of brazilian regions

This research developed an analysis on the regional imbalances at the Brazilian economy, the historic formation of the regions and perspectives. As a result of the distinctive courses followed by each region, an economical concentration process occurs in the Southeast. In this sense, this study intended to analyze the possible process of the Brazilian regional formation, using the concept of technological gap. The result show that, in relation to the possibilities of the regions and states that are less developed to accomplish the catching up with those that are more developed, the variables that represent generation as does the appropriation of new technologies were found to be significant and directly related to the product. Therefore, it can be affirmed that catching up would be possible if there was a higher investment en the process of development and appropriation of new technologies by the regional governments.
