Abortion and democracy

The struggle to legalize abortion in Brazil has advanced very little. The article focuses on the political importance of the issue. On the one hand, it is an index of the laicism of the State, which in turn is a necessary condition for the exercise of democracy. On the other hand, in the absence of this right, the citizenship of women is incomplete. The weight of the Catholic Church in Brazilian political life is not enough to explain the paralysis with regard to the question.
