"Is the Birth Control Pills the Solution?" Media Debate Between 1960-1970

Abstract:

The article presents the social debate on birth control pills, broadcast in O Globo, in the 1960s and 1970s conducted research historical partner, using the controversial study method. Safety and opportunity the spread of this technology in Brazil were the main issues of conflicts involving doctors, church, public authorities and family planning organizations. After years of ambiguity, the State enters the debate effectively and recovering the Catholic idea of "responsible parenthood", contributes to stabilization of controversies. The center of the debate moves from Malthusian issues for a liberal-conservative neo-Malthusian perspective that speaks of the right to decide on the offspring and the moral and civic responsibility not to have more children than those who can create.
