The effect of a program for motor intervention on motor development of children at social risk in Cariri - CE

The aim of this study was to verify the effect of a program of motor intervention on motor development (MD) of schoolchildren in a community living in socioeconomic vulnerability in Cariri, Ceará, Brazil. Forty-six (46) students of both genders participate of the study (23 Intervention Group and 23 Control Group), aged 7 to 9 years old (X̅= 8,27 - s = 0,61). The motor intervention was based on the proposition of Valentini and Toigo (2006) and Proximal Processes highlighted by Bronfenbrenner and Morris (2007). Motor performance was assessed by the Test of Gross Motor Development-2 (TGMD-2). The results showed positive and significant effect of MD in children treated in the interventional program. We conclude that the didactic-pedagogic proposition adopted was effective to promote the development students' locomotor and manipulative skills, showing up as a viable alternative to promote MD on Elementary School children.
