Remoção de ferro do banho de alumínio de sucata por filtragem

Aluminum is one of the most versatile material among the ones used in foundry practice. However, iron is one of the most important impurities in aluminum cast materials. During the solidification of aluminum alloys, iron promotes the formation of inteermediate phases, which may damage the properties of the final product. In the secondary aluminum industries there always happens the possibility of iron contamination because of the high amount of iron scrap. The aim of this work was to study the iron removal from molten aluminum through ceramic filters. The materials studied were based on he 308 e 356 aluminum alloys with iron additions. The variables of this work were chemical composition, temperature and kind of filter. The results obtained showed that the removal of iron is possible through the use of manganese and silicon followed by the decreasing of the temperature in the field of the intermediate phase crystallization.
