IMAGINATION, HISTORY AND POLITICS: DIALOGUES AND DISPUTES BETWEEN POETS AND CHRONICLERS IN DON QUIJOTE DE LA MANCHA

Abstract

Following specialists of Cervantes’s works, we intend recognize how D. Quijote de la Manchas’s story is a sophisticated “critic-invention” expressive of the Spanish humanist culture of the XVIth and XVIIth centuries. We show a possible autor’s opinion in the polemic between “poets” (fiction writers) and “chroniclers” (historians), analyzing the narrator’s adventures to find sources and methods which permit bring to light the knigh and his squires’s adventures in the form of a “modern history”. That means, an original novel, to quest both the chivalric novels and official chronicles.
