Abstract
The invention of free time in Lourenço Marques was able to promotion of sports and leisure activities. Among others, the beach vacation was very important. The beach of Polana was one of the main destinations for holidays in Lourenço Marques. Photographs, postcards and even movies recorded the time to “Get Some Fresh Air”. In the Photographic and Descriptive Albums of Portuguese East Africa (1929), by Jose dos Santos Rufino, the vacation and other leisure practices ware take as colonial propaganda. This article aims to discuss how certain colonial spaces to vacation, holiday and leisure can be seen as heterotopies of compensation.
