Aspects of Brazilian folklore”: Mário de Andrade, popular culture and black issue

ABSTRACT

“Aspects of Brazilian folklore” is an important production by Mário de Andrade and contributes to a better evaluation of the writer’s work. The book brings unpublished texts and contains reflections on the cultural memory and customs of the people. The central themes are popular culture and the black issue. The texts demonstrate the modernist’s concern with more careful research methods. The publication is marked by the notion of contemporaneity because the argumentative lines present strong dialogues with current debates.
