Streets, Screens, Cyberspace: The Youth's Everyday Media in Outskirts in Natal

In the neighborhood of Guarapes, western outskirts of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, a youth group was organized around hip hop culture to seek peace in their neighborhood. To tell their stories and strengthen the organization of your own place, they formed a group named Posse de Hip Hop Lelo Melodia. In 2009, the group installed the Bodega Digital, kind of telecentre that granted access to the internet and provided other tools to media and cultural production. In our master's research, we looked for tracing relationships between political and cultural youth actions and their participation in media spaces, especially on the internet. In this article, we intend to unveil the daily media usage of these youths and explore some of the strategies adopted by them to bypass blockages in their movements arisen among the streets and cyberspace.
