The Internet and new articulations of social movements

This article presents supports for the debate about the potential for the articulation of social movements through the use of the technical resources available today. It begins with an investigation of the dynamic nature of the existing contradictions in social relations and introduces a discussion about the democratic possibilities that new computer resources can create. It analyzes the role of new information and communication technologies in relation to the external organization of social movements. The objective is to show that the attribution of a mobilizing power to the new information tools (Facebook, Twitter etc.) can hide the determinations of the existing social relations in popular actions and demonstrations.
