Abstract
Sixty years since the publication in 1954 of One Dimensional Man, by Herbert Marcuse, we present this essay to pay a simple homage to someone who was a bold theoretician and reference for the student movement of the 1960s. Even disagreeing with the author, we must recognize his contributions and commitment to the time. The inspiration for writing these lines was an article by Rogério Lustosa Bastos, which identified, in different manners, the predominance of a perspective on the human being based on instrumental rationality or the concern for the need for practical alternatives, for spaces of construction of counter-hegemonic ideals.
