The subject of the birth trauma has been present in psychoanalytic literature for many years. In the search for answers as to what might be traumatic in birth I followed a path that included the bridges between the cares dispensed at the moment of birth and the baby’s first experiences. The objective here is to discuss the trauma in relation to the mode of care given at the moment of birth. The importance of the theme is based on the relationship between the quality of the baby’s first experiences and his/her healthy development. The conclusion here is that the acts carried out at birth can leave significant psychic marks that directly influence the care given by the mother. It is therefore a risk of trauma at birth.
