This paper uses concepts of psychoanalysis and symbolic anthropology to analyze practices of physical self-aggression among urban youth in western Mexico. Here this practice is seen as a symptom of themselves and their society. This articulation is proposed from the point of view of eating disorders and the act of cutting one's own skin.
