ABSTRACT
In this work the author presents a taxonomic study of the species of the genus Miconia Ruiz et Pav., section Miconia, ocorrent in the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro.
For the area in study, five species were cited with illustrations, type photographs and descriptions, emphasinzing venation patterns, calyx, corolla and stamen as well as a study of leaves pilosity and petals.
For the recognition of the species a key has been introduced.
