Dando continuação aos estudos sobre as espécies de Jacaranda Jussieu (Bignoniaceae - Seção Dilobos Endl.) da região Norte do Brasil, identificando o material do Herbário do INPA, o autor teve a oportunidade de achar uma nova espécie desse gênero, que denominou Jacaranda hirsuta Vattimo n. sp., pela presença de pêlos hirsutos em várias partes da planta, principalmente em seus folíolos.

Abstract The Author describes a new species of Jacaranda Jussieu (Bigaoniaceae - Seção Dilobos Endl.): Jacaranda hirsuta Vattimo n. sp., collected in the Brazilian State of Amazonas, near the river Curuquetê vicinity of Cachoeira Santo Antonio and also in State Acre, Rio Branco, penal colony.

RESUMO O presente trabalho consiste em uma revisão taxonômica do gênero Vataireopsis Ducke (Leg. Fab.), exclusivo da faixa neotropical, cujas espécies estão distribuídas pela formação denominada Floresta Perenifólia Latifoliada Higrófíla Hileana. O tratamento taxonômico inclui descrições, ilustrações, discussões sobre o grau de afinidade entre as espécies, distribuição geográfica e dados fenológicos. O autor elaborou um quadro com os caracteres diferenciais dos gêneros Vatairea, Vataireopsis (Dalbergieae) e Luetzelburgia (Sophoreae) além de outros sobre os estudos fenológicos. Também acrescentou uma nova espécie e excluiu uma do gênero. Uma chave dicotômica para a identificação das espécies é também apresentada. Os caracteres mais significativos na delimitação das espécies foram a morfologia do cálice, androceu, brácteas, bractéolas e frutos.

SUMMARY This work is a taxonomic revision of the species in the genus Vataireopsis Ducke (Leg. Fab.). This genus is found only in the neotropical region and is limited to Perenial Broadleaf Evergreen Hylean Forest. The taxonomic treatment includes descriptions, illustrations, discussions about the degree of affinity, the geographic distribution and fenological data. The most significant characters in delimitation of species are the morphology of calyx, androecium, bracteas, bracteolas and fruits. A dichotomic key for identification of species has also been presented. A new species has been included and another excluded. Also included is a table showing differential characteristic among the genus Vatairea, Vataireopsis (Dalbergieae) and Luetzelburgia (Sophoreae).

SUMMARY Some of the main types of vegetation from Minas Gerais were refered to with special emphasis on campo formation which covers the region embraced between Diamantina and Grão Mogol, and upon the drier, caatinga like vegetation around Araçuaí-Itinga-Itaobim. At the sandy campos among the few cacti species present, Discocactus tricornis (Dietr.) Monv. dominated amply. A number of Melocactus specimens were collected for future study in cultivation. M. diersianus not only thrived in an unusual habitat, limestone, endowed with rather copius water (Fig. 1 shows it amidst a vigorous growth of Selaginella sp.), but also differed from other through its distinct prickles (very thick and bent) combined with some body features (Fig. 1 and 8); the cephalium is big and deeply red, producing slightly colored berries (at times almost white). The bignoniaceous Cuspidaria cordata Mattos also was described as a new taxon, differing from C. argentea (Wawra) Sandw. in the cordate leaves and the pods both longer and narrower.

RESUMO O estudo de 12 espécies, 1 variedade e 3 formas de Bredemeyera Willd. é apresentado neste trabalho. Este gênero de Polygalaceae distingue-se, principalmente, pela cápsula de paredes duras, rugosas, cuneada na base, bilocular, com deiscência loculicida, com 2 sementes oblongas, pêndulas, cobertas de pêlos seríceos e providas de pequena carúncula, da qual sai um tufo de pêlos longos, esbranquiçados ou amarelados, que muitas vezes chegam até a base do lóculo do fruto. Descreveram-se e ilustraram-se as espécies brasileiras e estabeleceu-se, através de uma chave analítica, o grau de afinidade entre elas. Acrescentou-se à antiga sistemática do gênero 3 sinônimos novos e 3 formas, solucionando-se vários problemas de taxononomia.

ABSTRACT The study of 12 species, 1 variety and 3 forms of the Bredemeyera Willd. is presented in this work. This genus of the Polygalaceae is distinguished by its biloculate capsule, generally oblong-cuneate and two seeds oblong, pubescent, pendulous and with a small carunculus. From the carunculus extend tuft of long hairs which can reach the far end of the loculo. The Brazilian species are described and illustred. Also given is the degree of affinity among species. 3 new synonyms and 3 forms were added to the older systematic treatment of this genus resolving several taxonomic problems.

SUMÁRIO Neste trabalho apresentamos informações sobre a mata pluvial tropical do Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro, e damos algumas sugestões para sua recuperação. Descrevemos aqui a composição florística com suas espécies mais freqüentes, de importância econômica ou não.
