Blessed Funk: music appropriation, religious trajectory, and musical career by MC Polliana Gospel Funk

Abstract: In this article, as we approach gospel music, we focus on the activity of a funk gospel singer. She has elaborated her compositions, organized presentation spaces and products with which to disseminate her image and songs. The research was conducted in Campos dos Goytacazes, upstate Rio de Janeiro, from in-depth interview, consulting the singer’s blog, promotional materials and newspapers in the city. We seek to take a closer look at the conduction of religious trajectory and artistic activity in the evangelical milieu of an inner city, in order to understand what underlies the conception of musical activity, the relationships, the strategies adopted and the objectives established for the recognition of the music, artistic and religious work.
