The calculation culture engenders two forms of individualization: a) isolation of individuals in steps of formalized processes, i.e. in repetitive cycles of consumption and in organizational logic of bureaucracy; which puts self in a condition of heteronomy. b) freedom of men to obtain the possibility to control physical and economical nature by mathematical calculation, which develops a condition of autonomy of the self. In this latter form, the calculation ends up matching its own limits so that it is destined to act on the border-line of mysticism. The most important present-day forms of religious deinstitutionalization, which were the neo-pentecostal movements (with their consumerist accents), and the so-called "enchanted secularization" (with its mystic horizons), refer to those two forces of calculation culture.
