The search for a new economic model: alternative patterns of public-private articulation

The present article analyses, from a historical perspective, the patterns of articulation between the public and private sectors in Brazil, during the different stages of the industrialization process by imports substitution. It confronts these patterns with the present moment, marked by the de-structuring of older channels of articulation between State and society, without the creation of alternative institutional arrangements for the negotiation between state elites and organized interests. Beyond this diachronic perspective, the article also uses a comparative approach, contrasting the Brazilian case with experiences of other countries, in decisive moments of their trajectories, marked by economic restructuring and redefinition of development strategies.
