Decentralization and local power in Alexis de Tocqueville

Beginning with the presentation of a few basic elements of Alexis de Tocqueville's thought - his conception of a liberal democracy, his concept of freedom and his theory of well understood interest - this article analyzes Tocqueville's conception of decentralization and local power, specially his contribution to contemporary democratic theories and to the theoretical foundation of a democratic approach of political-administrative decentralization.
