The situation of endemic Hansen's disease in the county of S. Paulo, Brazil (1976-1977)

The situation of endemic Hansen's disease in the county of S. Paulo, Brazil during 1976 and 1977 is described and analyzed and also characterized as a public health problem through the presentation and discussion of prevalence and incidence rates according to the location of the homes in the different districts and subdistricts of the city including the central, intermediary, and outlying zones of the citycounty. The specific medical resources available are described and evaluated according to the same criteria. An attempt was made to relate the distribution of the resources to the distribution of the endemic rates found.
