Information contained in death certificates was evaluated in this two-year study. The amount of data not recorded or unknown was quantified. Sedom was the deceased unidentified. Lack of data was greater with respect to prior social and obstetrical information, medical assistance and violent death. The conclusion is that doctors and hospital staff should cooperate in order to improve the filling out of death certificates in Brasília (Brazil).
